Fariborz Maseeh, Sc.D. – Managing Principal and Portfolio Manager
Dr. Fariborz Maseeh founded Picoco LLC in 2001. Dr. Maseeh has over 16 years of experience in professional investment management. During this time, he developed a proprietary set of automated research tools, which enable him to systematically scour the investment universe to meet his fundamental investment objectives.
Dr. Maseeh is involved in numerous charitable organizations, including his own Foundation which he created in 2001 to benefit children and education.
Dr. Maseeh graduated with honors from the eponymous Maseeh School of Engineering and Computer Science at Portland State University with a Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering and a Master of Science in Mathematics. He received a Doctor of Science in engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1991, Dr. Maseeh founded the micro-technology company IntelliSense, which he later sold in 2000 to Corning Inc.
Daniel Vera, Ph.D. – Senior Analyst
Dr. Daniel Vera has worked in real estate finance and was a lecturer for the University of California, Irvine and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of California, Irvine, and received his Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology at the age of 21. He was also a visiting researcher in mathematics at Nagoya University in Nagoya, Japan.
Xian Deng, Ph.D. – Senior Analyst
Before attending graduate school in the United States, Dr. Xian Deng worked for one of the key state-owned enterprises with world-wide businesses in both logistics and shipping in China. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the Renmin University of China, a Master of Arts in Mathematics Behavior Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics from the University of California, Irvine.
Tashan Yen – Investment Associate
Mr. Tashan Yen re-joined Picoco in 2011 as an Investment Associate. Prior to re-joining Picoco, he was a Commodity Trading Advisor with Darewind LLC, where he traded agricultural and energy commodities using exchange-traded futures contracts. His experience also includes equity and commodity investing as a senior analyst at Picoco, co-founding a software start-up in Boston and administering commercial construction projects in California and Nevada. Mr. Yen received his MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management, his M. Eng. in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Information Technology from MIT, and his B.S. in Civil Engineering from UCLA.
Ronald Cheung – Associate Controller
Mr. Ronald Cheung joined Picoco as Associate Controller in early 2013. He has a diverse work and academic background. Prior to joining Picoco, he was with a California-based insurance company specializing in investment accounting and financial reporting and with PricewaterCoopers in Boston, MA in the Asset Management Group specializing in auditing investment funds. He was later transferred to the PwC Data Assurance practice where he focused on financial data analysis and data audit projects. Before joining PwC, Ronald was the Director for Financial Analytics in Grand Circle Corporation, a Boston-based world-wide operator and direct marketer for tour/cruise products. He was also an entrepreneur that owned and managed a business for over ten years which he later sold to pursue his career, and he has been a part-time lecturer in Accounting at UMass Boston Graduate School of Management.
Ronald Cheung is a licensed CPA (Massachusetts). He received his MSA from University of Massachusetts Boston with the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award, MSIT from Bentley University with High Distinction, and BsBA from Northeastern University, Summa Cum Laude.
